Mom goes in tomorrow morning for her first cateract surgery, and is quite apprehensive about it. She is ready to see the world again, but is still a bit nervous. We've known for some time that this needs to be done, but as usual, she was always putting others before herself, and has been putting it off. A few days after Daddy passed away, my little sister and her family invited Mom to go out on the lake with them on their boat. Mom really enjoyed it, but made the comment to me that the kids kept telling her....."Grandma, look at that", and would point at something.......
and she had no idea what they were seeing! I immediately had "the talk" with her about needing to get her eyes taken care of........after all, she IS still driving, and needs to be as safe as possible.
So she made the appt., and I took her in for her consultation, and now here we are, ready for the big day. In another 2 to 4 weeks, she will have the other one done, and then, her surgeon has put in a request with her insurance to have her eyelids "done". With age, the folds in her eyelids have drooped to the point that she can only open her eyes about half way. After all this is done, he said she will see things in a whole new way!
But if I may.........I ask for your prayers. Mom seems to have a history with having a bit of trouble with anesthesia, and has scared the puddin' out of us before. I know that she is strong and healthy, and she's a little scrapper, but the bottom line is that she is in God's hands, and I just pray that His will is for her to be just fine. Thank you in advance, and I will post again tomorrow night and give you an update.
Now, on the lighter side of the story: Mom and my sweet daughter Heather have a VERY close relationship, and every time her Grams has had a surgery, Heather has always sent her a stuffed animal. So this time, she had the brilliant idea to get a parrot for her Grams, to go with the whole eye patch after surgery thing. I thought it was hysterical, and so we just took the ball and ran with it. Heather went to a party supply store and bought pirate eye patches for all of us to wear tomorrow, and we are going to take her to Long John Silvers for lunch afterwards. (if she feels up to it, of course). And I've been trying my darndest to get James to say "Aaarrrgggghh".
He tries, which cracks me up, and I just hope we can get him to do it tomorrow. I'll have my camera with me, so I'll be able to share some pictures! Then Mom is going to spend the night tomorrow with my little sister, and then she will take Mom back in on Friday for her post-op
check. So, I will be busy and/or otherwise distracted for a day or two, but I promise to be back soon. Thank you again for your prayers, and remember to hug the ones you love..............
See you here again soon! God Bless You All!
